Stay & Play
Situated halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, San Luis Obispo County is your destination for all things coastal, cultural, and culinary. Whether you’ve chosen the Central Coast to play in the sun on our beaches, wander through vineyards and taste award winning wines, explore the Missions, galleries, and historical centers, or immerse yourself into our communities and restaurants, we invite you to channel your inner sense of adventure in San Luis Obispo County. With hundreds of activities for every type of traveler, let us take you off Highway 101 and into our bountiful cities or onto the Highway 1 Discovery Route for breath taking ocean views and coastal experiences.
Our inland communities experience the greatest temperature swings between daytime highs and nighttime lows providing sunny, warm days 315 days out of the year. Due to these microclimates, San Luis Obispo County has diverse growing conditions allowing world-class wine grapes, olives, strawberries, avocados, almonds, walnuts and a slew of other produce to flourish. With nearly every city hosting one or even two farmer’s markets a week, farm stands dotting the highways and backroads, and numerous you-pick farms, San Luis Obispo County makes it very convenient to find fresh, local produce and goods.
If playing on the beach is more your style, you’ll find 80 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline and 4,000 acres of sandy dunes. Marine culture includes whale watching, observing elephant seals in their natural habitat and exploring the tide pools to see starfish, crabs and other marine life. Experience the commercial fishing industry where you will see generations of fisherman working along the dockside with fresh seafood lining the dockside restaurants. The coastline is also filled with activities. Play on the ocean with your surfboard, kayak, paddleboard or sailboat.
