Activity Hearst Castle
Located on scenic Hwy 1, built by art collector W. R. Hearst, now a State Park and one of America’s best known house museums. The castle features primarily European art, complemented by the Mediterranean Revival architecture and gardens.
Hearst Castle has so many different features, it is impossible to fit it all in just one tour. The evening tour takes place Friday and Saturday evenings from October through December and features the living history program that emphasizes the bygone lifestyle of this great estate. Docents wear elegant attire will recreate the social life of Mr. Hearst's luxurious guests while other docents portray household staff attending to the needs of Mr. Hearst's guests. This tour also features an Accessibly Designed tour section. The Grand Room Tour is recommended for first-time visitors since it has the fewest stairs to climb. Every evening, W. R. Hearst’s guests gathered in the grand social rooms on the ground floor of Casa Grande (his formal name for the twin-towered building, or main house). The Upper Floors Tour includes ascending the winding staircases to discover the Castle’s most personal rooms, including W. R. Hearst’s private quarters.
